Extreme Temperature Solutions

Pressure measurements with extreme temperature conditions are always challenging for the pressure instrument. And thus, they are always protected with diaphragm seals to expand the temperature limits for the complete system.

Whether being extreme high process temperatures for molten salt heat storage applications or furnaces, or being extreme low temperatures such as cryogenic applications, Badotherm has tailored solutions for all these situations.

BSO-60 (liquid metal - HTDS 3.0) up to 850°C

With the introduction of a new solution Badotherm sets a new benchmark for high temperature diaphragm seals. Reversing its temperature compensator design based on a double diaphragm system, executed with BSO-60 liquid metal. With this technology, we are able to measure pressure at extreme temperatures up to 850 degC. At these temperature, the pressure temperature rating of many materials is exceeded, so often the higher graded alloys are required.

HTDS 2.0 up to 600°C

t is a recognised phenomenon in the process industry that higher process pressure and temperature can improve the overall efficiency of the process. When measuring with a transmitter with Diaphragm Seals the temperature limit of Diaphragm Seal applications is currently set to 420°C, as this is the maximum permitted temperature of the filling fluid. Specifically for the thermosolar industry for molten salt applications, Badotherm developed a Diaphragm Seal that can withstand process temperature up to 600°C.

it is a patented design based on mechanical cooling mechanism. It is suitable for vacuum conditions and has constant functionality.

BSO-48 fill fluid up to 420°C

BSO-48 is a Badotherm designed blend of silicone fill fluids up with a temperature limit up to 420°C. It has better temperature specification then the BSO-42 (another Badotherm blend) especially a better performance at low pressure (high vacuum) combined with high operating temperatures. As such it is an appropriate fill fluid for the boundaries of high temperature applications. Typically for high temperature applications.

Other high temperature fill fluids are BSO-42 and BSO-02. For inert high temperature fill fluids, BSO-18 can be suitable.

Cooling devices for direct mounts as from 120°C

Cooling devices are designed to be installed between diaphragm seal and pressure Instrument, mostly a pressure gauge or a pressure transmitter. The effect of the cooling devices is that it creates an additional distance between the process temperature and the sensing element. For electronics this mostly is desired to stay below the 100°C, and the most ideal situation for safety and performance is that the pressure instrument is lower than 50°C, so operators cannot burn themselves on the instrument. The exact cooling effect is always dependent on ambient conditions such a temperature, wind, mounting, radiation direction, material thickness, etc.

For most instruments, cooling devices are desired as from 120°C process temperature. Depending the temperature, a different cooling device can be chosen, each of temp with an own cooling down effect.

BSO-01 fill fluid up to -125°C

BSO-01 is an inert PCTFE fill fluid. This fluid has a reported freezing point of -125°C, but the temperature limit is set at a higher
temperature to allow the Diaphragm Seal System to function properly
• Typically used for low temperature applications
• Used in silicon free environments
• Can be used for chlorine and oxygen applications
• Can be used as secondary fill for Temperature Compensator

Temperature compensator

The Temperature Compensator is used in situation where there is a combination of high process temperatures and low measuring span in combination with the requirement of lang capillaries. In this combination the response times in cold conditions can increase to a delay that is unacceptable for the situation. Where fast response times are key to the functioning of a safe operation with high process temperatures the TC can be of an indispensable need.
