AISI 316 UG FSO-EXT Urea Diaphragm Seal System

Another outstanding urea-grade design for the fertilizer industry

At Badotherm, we take pride in delivering precise and reliable diaphragm seal systems tailored to the toughest industrial environments. Today, we’re showcasing a recent highlight: a custom diaphragm seal system designed for the fertilizer industry, built to meet the demanding SNAM TB.5002 specifications.

 

Featured Configuration

This installation features a Yokogawa EJX530A high-pressure gauge transmitter, perfectly paired with a Badotherm FSO-EXT UREA design. This configuration is particularly suited for high-pressure applications in urea processes.

Key technical details include:

  • 5-meter high-pressure capillary in full welded construction
  • Black PVC sheath for capillary protection
  • BSO-22 fill fluid, suitable for temperatures up to 225°C
  • 2” NPSM (cl. 2500) lens seat construction, designed for high-pressure use
  • Material selection optimized for extreme chemical resistance:
    • Cover flange: AISI 316 UG (Urea Grade) – UNS S31600 / Wst. 1.4435
    • Seal body: AISI 316 UG (Urea Grade) – UNS S31600 / Wst. 1.4435
    • Diaphragm: 25.22.2 / UNS S31050 / Wst.1.4466

This system was calibrated at 500 bar and underwent static pressure testing up to the transmitter’s maximum allowable pressure.

 

A Closer Look at the “Extended” Design

While classified as an extended type, this diaphragm seal system features an extension of only 0.5 mm. Technically an extension, but just barely — a detail that speaks to the precision and flexibility of our design capabilities.

 

Material Selection Matters

Operating in the urea production environment means exposure to carbamate-induced corrosion and stress corrosion cracking — two of the harshest conditions for process instrumentation. That’s why materials like AISI 316L UG and 310MoLN are being used,  which are proven to resist these aggressive chemical phenomena.

As standard for urea-grade applications, the material certifications include:

  • Huey Test report for corrosion resistance (ASTM A262 Practice C)
  • 3.1 Material certification acc. EN10204
  • Calibration test report for traceability and performance validation
