High End Materials

Diaphragm seals are used to protect pressure instruments from corrosive environments. Badotherm offers a wide range of diaphragm materials, including over 22 high-end options. These materials include various austenitic stainless steels, duplex steels, alloys, and special materials like titanium, tantalum, nickel, and zirconium. The diaphragm seals can be manufactured from the same material as the diaphragm to ensure resistance to process media. Special attention is required for welding to avoid dissimilar materials in wetted parts. Additionally, there are solutions with specific coatings, such as gold, polymer, and tantaline, to further protect the diaphragm seal materials.

Widest range of diaphragm exotic materials

There are numerous amount of materials available, each of the with their own specifications and corrosion rates. Each specific process may ask for very specific materials. Badotherm enjoys having the largest availability of diaphragm foil material in exotic materials. Not all materials are available in rolled condition to make a diaphragm from. Or sometimes the material is too hard to manufacture a diaphragm off. However, when available in the market, Badotherm will have it in order to support the customers for having the complete diaphragm seal system in the needed material for optimal corrosion protection.

BRF diaphragm seal explained

BF/BC have the diaphragm weld as a wetted part, this would lead with dissimilar materials to corrosion and/or weld strength problems. BRF/BRC have the diaphragm resistance welded to the body, which result in a weld as a non-wetted part, so allowing to create full wetted parts in exotic materials.

FSO construction explained

The FSO-BF construction has a seal body that is made of bar stock or forged material. The weld between the seal body and the diaphragm is a wetted part and therefore diaphragm materials are mostly chosen the same as the body material. The FSO-BF is recommended when special body or flange material grades are required.

similar construction are available in FSO-EXT and FSO-EXT-UREA, and less common types FSO-BRF or FSO-USL to make possible a mix of materials of the different components

FSO-EXT UREA - special design with fertilizer specific materials

The fertilizer industry. being nitrogen, ammonia, and especially the UREA production, characterizes itself by high demands on materials due to its corrosive environments. Hence Badotherm as a wide range of suitable materials. it start with 304L, 316(L) and 316UG, towards Duplex, super duplex, 25.22.2 or 6Mo and safurex, towards titanium and tantalum, topping off with zirconium

Gold coating

Gold is one of the noblest materials. As such, providing a thin layer of gold to a base metal will provide protection against hydrogen permeation. To protect the Diaphragm Seal against the permeation of H+ ions through the diaphragm foil, Badotherm offers a layer of 25µm or even 40µm a thickness of gold.

Silver electroplating is a chemical technique that involves covering the diaphragm made of AISI316L with a thin layer of Silver. This thin layer up to 40 microns is an excellent wear resistant plating.

Polymer Coatings

In many industries it is required to have a ‘plastic’ or polymer coating over the diaphragm seals or wetted parts of the diaphragm seals in order to protect your instruments. Badotherm offers a wide range of polymer coatings on their diaphragm seals.

Linings

The virgin PTFE lining is a common used protection against aggressive media such as chloride. The lining is a chemical resistant solution because of it’s thickness of 1mm. The lining is shaped into
a solid stainless steel part that can be fixed to the process band give the strength up to higher pressure ratings.

These linings are typically used with US and USL series in the lower part / housing or for extended type EXT diaphragm seal. Often in combination with a polymer coating on the diaphragm and or corrosion resistant materials such as alloyc276 or tantalum, whatever the process requires.

Tantaline

Tantaline® is a surface treatment that differs from all other tantalum coatings which are sprayed or dipped. It is really a tantalum surface alloy.
